Illness and rituals

My plan to bring a little treat each day fell by the wayside.  Life always seems to get in the way.

Over the last two weeks I've almost given up caffeine, going from several cups of tea and coffee each day to one cup of coffee or tea mid morning.  I've not consciously banned it or set hard and fast rules, but I have enjoyed feeling a little more authentic, not permanently wired.  I hadn't realised how often the stress I felt was actually caffeine induced.

Making tea, whether it's black, green or a tisane, is a little ritual in itself.  It's lovely to relax a little while the tea brews, and know that for 90 seconds, all you have to do is breathe.  It's strange how such simple rituals can relax you, or be indicative of your mental health.  I recently attended a very interesting training session with Dr James Warner, a consultant psychiatrist and expert in dementia (see more here) who referred to the process of making a cup of tea as a sequential event which goes through almost every aspect of cognitive functioning, including abstract thinking, motivation, personality and judgment.

Who knew a simple cup of tea could be so powerful?

Reading this article on The Healthy Apple inspired me a little.  So here I am, with a chronic cold and sore throat but sat in the seat with the best view in the house, sipping an apple mint tea and just relaxing.  My recipe was a little ad hoc but is here below.

Apple mint tea

One green tea bag
Five mint leaves
Half an apple sliced thinly
Honey to taste

Add two cups of water to a saucepan (I used large mugs to make a mild blend).  Heat the water to boiling.  While the water is heating add one green tea bag.  Roll and crush five fresh mint leaves, add to the water.  Thinly slice half an apple (I used a pink lady and a mandolin to slice).  Add to the mixture.

Bring the water to the bio and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.  Add honey to taste, add more mint or boil for longer for a strong taste.  Beware the bitterness of a green tea boiled too long.

Strain to serve.

Good morning!

This is me this morning

Well we can dream, right?  In all seriousness, who wouldn't want to look this healthy, happy and completely content?

Last night's pamper mission took the form of an indulgent evening curled up with my honey and simply relaxing.  It might sound strange but I love the evenings where we can spend a whole evening together in the same room, but each be doing our own thing.

Today's a long day for me, so I have a lot of scheduled posts showing you some of the unique items I have for sale  I can't wait to start making some new creations at the weekend, but have some custom orders and a lot of hours in the office before then.

What do you plan to do to today to nurture or pamper yourself?  Or are you saving up so you can be just like that woman on the beach?

Tension

If you read the blog then you will know that, this week, I am on a mission to pamper myself.  There's a good reason for this.  Almost all weekend I have resembled this:

I do have problems with my neck and back, and have had the mother of all tension headaches following treatment on Saturday!

Heading in to work carrying two heavy bags and loaded down with painkillers and cold compress strips, I do think that there has to be another way!

What is your favourite way of treating yourself when you feel less than brilliant? Do you have a ritual or therapy, however big or small, that helps you to cope?

Please share, because what I'm doing at the moment clearly isn't working!

200 days down...

I've been neglecting the blog recently, and for that I apologise sincerely .

The shop has recently reached 200 days old, and looking back I am so pleased by how it has progressed.

Back at 100 days RogueJewels had had 2500 views and nearly 100 favourites.

Another 100 days and there are so many wonderful things to be grateful for!

My items have been seen 6500 times I'm those hundred days. It's completely gobsmacking! My items have received more than 250 favourites in that time.

Roguejewels is currently being advertised by Leah Loverich's blogs
http://1940sthrowback.tumblr.com and http://leahloverich.blogspot.co.uk/

I'm also due to feature my items in the flesh at an upcoming craft fair (and a few other things in the pipeline).

The shop www.etsy.com/shop/roguejewels has now expanded to accept payments by debit and credit card in addition to paypal.

I am still so excited every single time I see someone has stumbled across one of my items.  I'm trying to expand the lines I run to develop my signature style.  I've been creating custom items for a number of people so if there is something you have been thinking of but not seen yet, contact me!

With all my thanks
L

Buying just got easier

Not that it's ever been particularly difficult for me that is!

I am pleased to announce the Etsy Rogue Jewels store now accepts credit and debit card payments and Etsy gift cards through Etsy's direct checkout.

What does this mean?

You no longer need a paypal account, with separate log in details, in order to buy.  Etsy can securely store card details if you so choose, and you can use Etsy gift cards in order to pay for items.  I love using gift cards (hint to anyone thinking about Christmas already...)

The system is safe, secure and speedy.  Check it out at www.etsy.com/shop/roguejewels

A new autumn line up

I know I promised back to work but hey, life happens.

I am however pleased to introduce the start of my new autumn line.  If you look very very carefully you might sense a theme!

From left to right green sugar skull earrings silver spike earrings, black sugar skull earrings, skeleton silver drop earrings, witch on a broom silver drop earrings

and

from left to right silver pumpkin drop earrings, hanging bat silver earrings, aged copper leaf skeleton earrings, purple sugar skull earrings RIP tombstone drop earrings, hanging spider drop earrings.

Cunningly, these are all listed in a new section of the shop listed as 'Halloween jewellery', although some items are more of an autumnal, new season feel and so you should also check the New In section which shall go live shortly.

These are the first of the new halloween and autumnal items, and links shall be updated as each item goes live over the next few days.  The items are strictly limited, some earrings in particular only have a run of one or two, therefore if you would like to order more than one set please do let me know and I can get the right parts in for you specially.

As ever please check out the other items available on RogueJewels, I have now sold out of an amazing 50 lines since the shop was first set up in April, other items are now very limited, once they are gone, they really are gone!

I love autumn, and for any summer fans, I hope these new items will ease the transition!

Thanks for sticking with me,

Leah

Back to work!

It's been a crazy few weeks.  Between my new job, new commute to another country (how glamorous does that sound??) and getting used to a new city, I knew I'd have a little less time on my hands.

I hadn't counted on a family crisis, fostering a dog the size of a small donkey (but far more gorgeous and cuddly) and then throwing myself headlong down the stairs at work!

So, at the end of the last bank holiday of the year, it's time to knuckle down.  I have recently taken delivery of a number of new components, and have dozens of ideas in my head.

Keep watching www.etsy.com/shop/roguejewels and www.facebook.com/roguejewels for literally dozens of items over the next two weeks!

August birth stone - peridot

Peridot is the birth stone for August

The stone is a citrus or olive green and generally has good clarity.  Peridot is believed to have properties that assist the body both physically and mentally, helping to heal internal issues, relieve depression and reflect back negative properties away from the wearer.

As a caveat - I have no idea of the scientific background, I adore peridot because it is my birthstone and because I am a typical redheaded magpie, loving green in all forms.

I have recently bought in some peridot gemstone beads for a custom order, but will have a few left over.  If you are looking to buy a present for someone this August, contact me to discuss a custom piece for your friend or loved one, and I'll get something made, giftwrapped and sent out generally within a couple of days!

To contact me to discuss custom designs email me on roguejewels@gmail.com or contact me via the Etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/roguejewels

Exciting new products!

Whilst the sale continues to run on the Etsy shop RogueJewels I have put some plans in to place for the next items to be listed.

No new items will be listed until the sale ends; I hate nothing more than a 'new lines added' advert during a sale!  I am trying out some new things for the shop that will be listed next week including shambala bracelets.

I've also picked up some products to assist with colour and patina of products; more information will follow shortly and perhaps some how-to pictures.  I can't wait to start playing.

Picture taken by me with the help of instagram, check it out on www.instagram.com/rogueylawyer

The weather has turned from a blistering heat wave to torrential rain, and I can't say I'm disappointed.  The heat was lovely but I adore summer rain.  I'm looking forward to deeper and richer colours including greens, coppers and browns.  I'm an autumn child at heart.

Look out for these new products coming soon.  In the meantime please do check out the sale at RogueJewels for 33% off everything in stock.  The more that sells, the more new items I can produce for you!

Please do share the shop and make sure to like the facebook page www.facebook.com/roguejewels for regular updates.  If you know anyone who runs a blog or page that would like to feature some of my items please do put them in touch; I'm very grateful for everyone's help and support in this project and look forward to giving back some good karma.

With love,

L

Roguejewels birthday sale

I'm currently counting down to my birthday. I'm not telling you how old I am, and I can tell you it is NOT given away by the size of the discount on the store.

It seemed a good time to run a sale: the summer holidays are here, it's nearly my birthday, and this week I am on a holiday between my previous job and new employment starting next Monday.

It's also time to set down the size of the shop. I love creating and adding new items, but at nearly 200 items, the shop was too large for me to organise, too many items to view and seemed too 'noisy'.  My intention in running the sale is to run down some of the lines, and free up some space in both the storage here and online.

So far 10 unique lines have sold out, and I am down to a single item for a number of the earring, necklace and bracelet lines.  Once these items have sold out I am not making them again or buying the components in again. It's time to move on to something new.

The sale is only for a limited period, so get your orders in as soon as possible, before that item you had your eye on sells out for good!

Treats

Do you ever feel like you need a treat?  After good news, bad news, a rubbish day at work or just a day when I want to raise my mood, I feel like I need a treat.

My lovely other half has just bought me one of my favourite treat foods, because he is just awesome like that.

I was also thinking of treating myself to a new piece of jewellery. I'm thinking a pair of these red rose earrings would be lovely

They are so sweet, and the perfect size for every day wear.  They're available here for £1.99: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/155223668/red-resin-rose-stud-earrings-with-silver

Thunder and lightning!

Here in the south west of England we had the most amazing thunder storms last night! I know it's broken the heat wave but it looked like a tropical storm; constant rolling thunder, sheet lightning and monsoon like rains. Now everything is fresh and cool and sweet smelling.

Fingers crossed that should mean I get a lot more of my organising done, without slumping into a heat induced siesta.  As soon as I am done the big announcement will be forthcoming! Promise!

In the meantime, my last Tuesday in my current employment.  Organisation all round as I clear my workload and desk, it feels quite cathartic.

Getting organised

Ahead of the surprise later this week, I am getting myself organised.  185 items are currently listed on the shop, which is way too many to handle!

I've therefore established a new way of keeping all the jewellery safe whilst it waits for its new home, thanks to some Really Useful Boxes and trays, a pen and plastic bags.  A far clearer way of organising things all round.

You may notice a few changes on the shop this week as I update the inventory and list all the multiple items.  Keep an open eye and keep checking back; as soon as my inventory is done there is a lovely treat for everyone coming up!!

Steampunk watch part jewellery

These earrings are still one of my favourite pieces to make

Vintage watch parts are preserved in high shine, clear or coloured resin.

Resin is not fully waterproof and can be tricky to work with; ambient temperature too high and your resin won't set; too low and the resin won't mix properly.

That's why I'm always so proud when the jewellery comes out perfectly.

This style of jewellery is also available in necklace format and in this bracelet format, either as a single or double wrap bracelet

I also take custom orders and commissions, so if you like these, check out the shop at www.roguejewels.etsy.com or drop me an email on roguejewels@gmail.com
